AI Agent Cost Calculator

AI agent cost calculator for monthly model, tool, retry, hosting and review estimates using your own rates and volumes.

AI agent cost calculator: estimate monthly spend from task volume, model steps, token usage, retries, external tools, fixed charges and human review.

Tasks, steps, retries and overhead

Use tasks per month and expected model/tool steps per task. Input and output rates are per one million tokens. Cached-input fraction and cached-rate ratio range from zero to one. Extra-attempts fraction is additional attempts divided by base attempts: 0.1 means 10% extra work. Include tool cost per step, fixed monthly costs and human monthly costs.

All rates and costs must use the same currency. Example amounts are fictional assumptions. No vendor rates are preselected and no API calls are made.

Worked example

With 1,000 tasks, four steps, 1,500 input tokens, 300 output tokens, illustrative rates of 1 and 4 per million, 10% extra attempts and 0.002 tool cost per step, variable cost is 20.68. Adding 25 fixed and 100 human cost gives 145.68 per month. These are fictional planning assumptions, not vendor prices.

Assumptions and limits

The sensitivity rows increase tasks 20% or double steps while holding fixed and human costs constant. Real support effort may also grow with volume, so build a separate scenario when it does. A zero task volume makes per-task cost undefined rather than silently returning zero.

Use the linked official provider pricing pages for the model and service you actually select. Rates vary by model, processing mode, cache operations and service. Copy the applicable rates into your assumptions and retain the source and date. This calculator’s illustrative rates are not a model price table.

Who should use this calculator and how to read it

This calculator is for product, finance, and operations teams estimating one agent workflow over a month. Start with measured task volume and a representative number of model steps. Enter average input and output tokens per step, the rates and currency from the provider terms you actually use, and the expected retries and tool charges. Add fixed service costs and human review separately so direct usage does not hide operating work.

The result separates variable model and tool charges from fixed and human costs, then reports a monthly total and cost per task. Compare the built-in higher-volume and double-step sensitivities before treating the base case as a budget. For token-only scenarios, compare the LLM API cost calculator and token cost calculator. Use the ROI calculator separately for time value and payback assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

Does this calculator use current provider prices?

No. You enter the rates from the applicable official price page, invoice, or contract. The tool makes no pricing lookup or model API call; keep the source, model, billing unit, currency, and date with your scenario.

How should I enter retries?

Use the extra-attempt fraction for additional work beyond the base attempts. A value of 0.1 represents ten percent extra attempts. Use observed retry rates where possible and make a separate high-variance case for failures or unusually long workflows.

Are cached tokens and tool calls included?

Enter cache share and the applicable relative cache rate only when your provider reports eligible cached usage. Add separately billed search, storage, orchestration, or other tool charges in the tool-cost input, and avoid counting them twice.

Can I use the result as an invoice or spending approval?

No. It is a scenario based on your inputs, not an invoice parser, provider budget control, or authorization. Reconcile a representative billing period and have the accountable finance and system owners approve any spending decision.

Calculate cost per task and monthly scenario

An AI agent pricing calculator or AI agent cost estimator is only as useful as its workload assumptions. Enter tasks for a month, model and tool steps per task, average input and output tokens, extra attempt share, tool charge per step, and fixed and human costs. An AI agent budget calculator can then compare the current case with 20% more tasks or twice as many steps. The result is an estimate, not a provider quote.

In the fictional sample, each step costs 1,500 × $1 ÷ 1,000,000 = $0.0015 for input, plus 300 × $4 ÷ 1,000,000 = $0.0012 for output, plus $0.002 for the tool, or $0.0047. For 1,000 tasks, four steps and 10% extra attempts, variable cost is 1,000 × 4 × 1.1 × $0.0047 = $20.68. Add $25 fixed and $100 human cost for $145.68 monthly, or $0.14568 per task. This is the AI agent cost per task at the stated monthly volume; the AI agent cost per month is $145.68. All rates are fictional assumptions.

The same structure can support an AI coding agent cost calculator or a coding agent cost per month scenario by using measured tasks, retries and tool charges. Use agentic workflow cost estimate to include all model steps rather than only the final answer. A Copilot Studio cost calculator or AI implementation cost calculator scenario still needs its own licensing, hosting, integration, evaluation and support inputs; this calculator does not retrieve those prices.
